Whether you want to volunteer for a particular event or be a long-term volunteer, we will get you plugged into the organization and you will have first hand update about various events that are being planned by EA4C.

Our five commitments:

1. To be fully accountable to the community. We will publish a full accounting of our revenue and expenses every three months. Though transparency, we will earn your trust.
2. We will not speak for the community. Our role is to provide a platform for the community to gather and make an informed decision on issues that impact our community
3. We are non-partisan organization, we will reach out to all parties so that they can come and speak to our community and ask for our vote and our support
4. As an organization, we do not take a stance on political developments in Ethiopia other than to state our strong belief in democracy and the right of every man and woman to have the right to vote
5. Organizers and volunteers who work with and for Ethiopian-Americans for Change will do so on a pro-bono basis. We are not driven by financial gain, we are driven by community service

  1. To engage and integrate the Ethiopian community within the American political/civic process to ensure that our community’s voice is quantified in a verifiable method using   statistical analysis and data collection.
  2. Engage existing organizations that are already working on behalf of the community so that we can apply our organization to optimize their capability and reach.
  3. Raise conciseness on issues that impact the Ethiopian diaspora disproportionally.  Whether these issues are immigration, health-care, taxes, and other social needs that impact our community.
  4. Celebrate the diversity and beauty of the Ethiopian culture by incorporating the best of our country’s music, art, and other cultural aspects and show casing our culture on a platform where both Ethiopians and non-Ethiopians can fully appreciate our Ethiopia’s culture.
]]> http://www.ea4c.org/2009/10/mission/feed/ 0 History http://www.ea4c.org/2009/10/history/ http://www.ea4c.org/2009/10/history/#comments Fri, 23 Oct 2009 03:36:28 +0000 admin http://www.ethiopianamericansforchange.org/new/?p=109 The origins of Ethiopian-Americans for Change can be traced back to the presidential campaign of 2008, when a group of enthusiastic Obama supporters formed a group called Ethiopians for Obama.  From there, Ethiopians for Obama grew into a nationwide organization with literally thousands of Ethiopians working across the nation to ensure a broad participation of Ethiopian-Americans in the 2008 election.  Ethiopians for Obama registered thousands of Ethiopians who were never involved in politics and bothered to vote.    The countless hours spent making phone calls, canvassing, traveling out of state, manning registration tables, and holding informational sessions paid off on November 4th, 2008.  On that day, in the City of Alexandria alone, over 10,000 Ethiopian-Americans turned out and voted.  Through the hard work of Ethiopians for Obama members, the Obama campaign released a letter to the Ethiopian-American community thanking Ethiopians for the countless contributions they have made to this great nation—a historical moment for our community.

After the election, Ethiopians for Obama evolved into Ethiopian-Americans for Change. Ethiopian-Americans for Change is a grass-roots organization that is dedicated to the political and cultural advancement of Ethiopian-Americans through a vibrant civic engagement.  The charter of Ethiopian-Americans for Change is to seek out ideas from all entities that will advance the social, political, and cultural interests of Ethiopian-Americans and endorse those ideas on a non-partisan basis.  Ethiopian-Americans for Change aims to transform the way that Ethiopians view political and civic engagement by staying true to the grass-roots nature that empowers all to be active participants in the direction of the organization.
