Last year, we literally made history.  The Inaugural Ethiopian-American Appreciation Day was an amazing day by any measurement.  In two short months, we were able to put together an event that featured the following accomplishments:

  • A free concert featuring Mahmoud Ahmed, Wayna, Yehune, Tsegaye Selassie, Zakki, Munit Mesfin, DJ Mamush, Richmond Punch and much more
  • Got a proclamation released by the DC City Council officially recognizing 09.25.09 as Ethiopian-American Appreciation Day
  • Mayor Fenty released a letter thanking Ethiopians for the vast contributions we have made and continue to make to the District of Columbia and beyond
  • Served a four course Ethiopian dish sponsored by Almaz Restaurant
  • Had fun activities for kids featuring a moon bounce and cotton candy machine
  • The Washington Nationals recognized September 25th as an Ethiopian-American Appreciation Day

The list could go on and on, but the point is not to live in the accolades of the past, but to look forward to bigger and better things.  This year, the second annual Ethiopian-American Appreciation Day will be held at the Nationals Baseball Park again, and it will be bigger than last year.

The Ethiopian-American Appreciation Day is our way of celebrating out community and giving a chance for our community to be celebrated for the many contributions that we continue to make to this wonderful country. Stay tune, we will release more information in the coming weeks.
